We propose to give the dollar back to the US citizens to fix it themselves by making it open, local and trackable:
• Open dollars provide on-demand printing, customization and personalization.
• Local dollars allow communities to support local economies by creating their own complementary currencies.
• Trackable dollars provide personal control over spending, motivate purchases yet maintain privacy.”
Joint submission by: Neil Clavin, Ireland/Germany, strategic innovation and design manager. Yasmina Haryono, international,
designer-researcher-überfrau.
Heather Moore, US/Germany, strategy and future vision.

  1. To give some more details about the concept:From the ???U.S.??? dollar to the ???us??? dollarThe project is looking into how the dollar as a currency needs to be redesigned to enable people to use it in a way it suits their needs best and to help the people regain their trust in money, trust that was destroyed by the financial crisis. The resulting concept we proposed in our submission is a vision, a vision that should inform a possible future. In the financial crisis the banks broke the dollar via irresponsible lending and bad products. We see now US citizens paying taxes and higher credit to fix the banks??? mistakes. US citizens face a weak economy, huge personal debt and a system run by those who broke it. US citizens seek a stronger economy, freedom from debt and a system which works for them. We propose to give the dollar back to the US citizens to fix it themselves. Make the dollar open, local and trackableBy exploring emerging behaviors of people in their everyday life, we identified peoples??? desires we needed to tackle in our design??? People and communities need to be involved in the creation of money to obtain a currency that is theirs and regain a personal relation to money. We made the dollars open source to provide on-demand printing, customization and personalization. ??? People and communities need more influence over the way they are interacting and exchanging value. We encourage communities to create their own complementary currencies in order to better support local economies.??? People and communities need to develop and control a responsible association with money. We developed trackable dollars that provide personal control over spending, motivate purchases yet maintain privacy.
